Changing corners to have a smooth radius in PDS

BeverleyBeverley Posts: 106
What is the best way to make corners smooth and turn into a radius. See image below.

I've tried
Modify Point smooth
Modify Point smooth/line
Modify Line Curve
Modify Line smooth

All with not much success, or I'm not doing it correctly
Do I need to split lines or combine lines before I do any actions?
I don't really want to create a circle in each corner and use as a construction line to then add smooth points to my perimeter lines then move my points to match the circle, then delete the circle.
Any detailed step by step help would be appreciated

Hello Beverley, you can try using the Create|Curved Intersection function to change straight corners to curved corners.

    Jaye,
I tried that and it didn't work !
    How do you do it?
Do I need to combine the lines before hand?

Beverley, the curved intersection function works on corners...so no need to combine the lines if you are planning to use this function.  What was the result when you tried to use the curved intersection functions?  What were your settings in the User Input box?  In addition, what you are trying to do is not very easy to modify in PDS...and may yield quicker results if the piece was either inputted using digitizer or accuscan with curve.  You can try to reshape the straight lines by using a combination of Create|Curved Intersection (circle dropdown) and Modify|Curve functions.  Please reference attached.

I managed to get 3 corners done but not the 4 I need. I added a 0.09mm radius

  • BeverleyBeverley Posts: 106
I get "invalid Radius amount" when I try to create the other corner.
Ive even tried creating a square shape and tried the same and will not work?

Can you make a test please, use the same dimensions as above and see if it works for you ?

Dear @Jaye Brown, it's really not working for small distance.
    I would try
    1. create separate circle but input very smal distance between points.
    2. Split circle to 4 parts
    3. Replace line function or swap line

why is it working for 3 out of the 4?

@Vasyl can you do me some screen shots of what you have given instruction to above please?

    are the inches or cm?
What radius's value do you apply?

PS. If circles created on step1 became shap afret split then before split you need to add extar intermadiate point on circle

    PS:
just mentioned "Circle tangent 2 lines"

@Beverley Did You tried Curved Intersection...!!!

@MuhammadOwais yes I did but it don't work. Look at my post 73,
I gave some sample measurement to try on a piece. I can get 3 out of 4 corners working but no all of them. You try it and let me know how to sort the issue out?

@Beverley Worked for Me... I've just created Simple piece and Traced the new piece out of it. Then I Applied Curved Intersection on It...

I've just created another piece and tried it again using same dimensions as before and applying 0.1 radius. I still cant get the bottom ones to work.

@Beverley Yep. It seems like Your setting. I've tried it again and it worked for me...

@MuhammadOwais so what settings will I need to change to make this work?
Strange how it works on all the other areas but not when its the both at the bottom?

    1.  Create Circle

just finish command circle become smooth

    2. Split circle to 1/4

    3. Change perimeter with internal

    4. result

dashed 3/4 or circle can be deleted

Yes - it's long way but... single at this time.

    PS:
Cos somebody can send enchancament report
    1. Add distance between point to Curved intersection
    2. Make minimun value for lastone less. than 0.3"
  • BeverleyBeverley Posts: 106
@Vasyl this takes too long and I have hundreds to do.

If the other option works, but not on one of the corners then I need to understand what needs to be done to make it work for 'all' corners. Or what I am doing wrong? or what settings needs changing.

I cant send to enchancament as this don't work for me and my server setup

Sorry.  i not see smooth on any your curves...
But if the issue is just one corner then try option "add/change radius".

  • BeverleyBeverley Posts: 106
    i click on
    Create
    Curved intersection
I select the corner I want to convert
it asks for the distance and I type in 0.1

    all corners work ok *.

*when I get to the bottom corners, only the first one I alter will work so if I do the bottom LH firs, then the I cannot do the bottom RH or vice versa. I get the message Invalid radius amount.

@Beverley Try Changing options as I've selected in Below Image's Red Rectangle:

Also Split the Bottom Line and draw an Offset for center panel than attach it with Straight Lines...

@MuhammadOwais I still get the same issue
  • VasylVasyl Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭
    @Beverley,
    Attach your piece here.
  • BeverleyBeverley Posts: 106
This attached piece is just the test piece I created to experiment with and the other piece is something similar to what I need to convert for real, but I have such a lot of them to change.

@Beverley The problem is with Unit of Measurement. I was working in Inches and it was doing great. But when I tried it in Centimeter, It gave me the same error. I think the PDS Algorithm can't handle that tiny amount of Radius in Curved Intersection...

But there is an other way around with folding. Try This:

    1. Create a Box

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2. Split the center Line with given Values
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Offset Even the Center Line
     ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    4. Create 2 Point Lines on both sides

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    5. Split Top and Bottom Lines on Midpoints and Draw a straight Line. Then Trace the Half Piece from that Piece.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    6. Now Increase the Side line with "Move offset Line" Command to 0.5cm and then add "Curved Intersection" on both points. After that move back the Side Line with "Move Offset Line" to -0.5cm.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    7. Now Mirror the Piece on Side Line and You'll get the following piece after unfold.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    8. And at Last just  Select Open command and delete the center line. You'll end up with the piece You wanted.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

N.B. Don't combine the center bottom lines or the Curve will Disappear.

@MuhammadOwais Thank you for taking the time to look at this. However my actual pieces I can not do this to. I just created the test piece to see if it worked. On my post 81 you see I've attached a test piece and a real piece.
Is this something Gerber Software can look at?

What I don't understand if it does it for all the other corners then why can it not do it for all?
